Default Ranel Wijesinha.

Ranel Wijesinha was apointed to the Board of Bank of Ceylon and the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in January 2015 by Ravi Karunanayake and the PM respectively.





Mr. Ranel Tissa Wijesinha serves as an Independent International Consultant to the Asian Development Bank. Mr. Wijesinha served as Director, Business Development of the John Keells Holdings Group. He served as Manager of Deloitte, Bahamas. Mr. Wijesinha was a Partner and Head of Consulting and Financial Advisory Services of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sri Lanka. He served as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, and President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants. He has over 31 years of national and international professional work experience in accounting, auditing and consulting. Mr. Wijesinha serves as an Independent International Management Consultant to multilateral and bi-lateral development banks and institutions providing advisory services to overseas Governments. He served as Chairman, National Wealth Corporation Ltd and Chairman of Ayojana Fund Management (Private) Limited. He has held several statutory, regulatory and advisory positions for the Government of Sri Lanka. Mr. Wijesinha has been Independent Non-Executive Director of Bank of Ceylon since February 9, 2015. He serves as a Director of Hotels Colombo (1963) Limited. In February 2015, he was appointed as a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka. He served as a Non-Independent Non Executive Director of Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka & Finance PLC from March 18, 2016 to July 29, 2016. He served as a Director of John Keells Hotels PLC from July 2005 to June 30, 2016. He was a founder director of Lanka Ventures Ltd. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of the Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board of Sri Lanka. Mr. Wijesinha holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, USA.

Ranel opts to stay out of MBSL Board filled with shareholder directors

Untitled-1Top professional Ranel T. Wijesinha has decided to opt out of the Board of Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka.

A 75%-owned subsidiary of Bank of Ceylon, MBSL held its Annual General Meeting earlier in the weekand the bank said Wijesinha did not seek an election as a Director.

Wijesinha is a Director on the Bank of Ceylon Board and he along with Chairman Ronald Perera, AselaPadmaperuma, Charitha Wijewardane and Ajith Gunawardena who are all nominees of BOC were re-elected.

MBSL in its disclosure to the Colombo Stock Exchange didn’t reveal reasons for Wijesinha’s decision.

All MBSL Directors including Wijesinha were Non-Independent Non-Executive Directors and MBSL Board lacks Independent Non-Executive Directors in the best interest of corporate governance.




Ranel T Wijesinha an independent international management consultant, performs advisory work in the Private and Public Sector
. He has been Team Leader, on behalf of multilateral development banks, in many overseas assignments in Governance and Institutional Risk Assessments relating to Public Financial Management and Procurement, in post soviet nations in the Caucasus’s such as Armenia, and Azerbaijan. He has also performed infrastructure related Financial Management Assessments, in the Kyrgyz Republic, Afghanistan and India, He has extensive experience in strategic advisory work in the private sector, in project evaluation, due diligence, corporate turnarounds, privatizations, restructuring, valuations, mergers and acquisitions. The holder of a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania USA, and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri-Lanka, he is a Past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri-Lanka and a Past President of the 23 nation strong Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants. He trained at KPMG Sri-Lanka, lived and worked overseas for 10 years, worked as Manager and Head of Consulting with Deloitte in The Bahamas, on his return to his home country, he proposed and set up the first Business Development Division for the John Keells Holdings Group, and served as the Division’s first Director. He was later invited to the Partnership of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he restructured and repositioned its Consultancy Division in the areas of inter-alia, Diagnostic Assessments, Project Finance, Valuations, Acquisitions, and Divestments. He has served in several advisory roles for the Government and has also served in many regulatory bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the country’s first Consumer Affairs Council. Ranel invests considerable hours in many Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
