S.Thomas’ began as a daring idea in Mutwal in 1851. The colonial government had refused to assist protestant missionaries, seeking to inculcate liberal ideals in education. Almost in defiance, its old boys were to become the single largest entity that led their country to independence. They defined the political fundamentals of a fledgling democracy.
The Old Boys Association of S.Thomas’ was founded in 1885.They raised a school by the sea in Mount Lavinia of Gothic and Byzantine architectural style, to resemble a college at Oxford or Cambridge, which became known as the “Eton of Ceylon .

OLD BOYS : Arun Dias Bandaranaike (Narrator), Chamath Paranawidane (Videotape Editor), Niranjan Dias Bandaranaike (Researcher) & Oshada Senanayake (IT & production coordination) were the team that put this film together.

Oshada is standing for re-election to the OBA committee. Please vote him if you are at the AGM.
