Dear Sriyan,

Larry Shockman was a house prefect of Chapman House in 1953, when I joined College. He had two other younger brothers, David and Lester in college at the same time.

All joined planting.

This info is for your necessary attention,

Dear Sene, Dyan, Dushy, Valerie, Vimal
I do not know whether you know Larry Schokman, I guess Sene and Valerie (a relative of yours?) might know him.
Vimal knows him as I brought him a message some time ago and I think he visited the Cathedral Gardens with Vimal.

I got to know him on my many visits to Miami and spent time with him at the "Kampong" (Malay word for village - Sene will remember) and at his home after he retired. In fact he gave me the seeds for "Florida Cherry" that grows in my garden and that I hope to have growing in every school in SL because kids will just eat the fruits and get their daily vitamin C.
I also bought and treasure his Book "Plants of the Kampong".

I was shocked to hear that he had passed away because he was so full of life the last time I met him a couple of years ago.

Good bye Larry - I know you will be tending His garden.

Thank you Marina for sharing.

Dear Thomians

It is with sadness that we inform the membership of the passing of our long standing and senior overseas member of the STC OBA, Larry Schokman, in Miami, USA.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Larry’s wife, Colleen and his siblings David and Thea.

As a Thomian, athlete, national rugby player, planter and internationally acclaimed horticulturist, Larry will be sadly missed by countless friends in many circles, all over the world.

A tribute to him in Miami can be viewed via the below link.
