Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera, formerly Legal Adviser and Head of the Legal Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and currently Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, was elected to membership of the prestigious Institut de Droit International at its 78th session held at Hyderabad’s NALSAR University of Law from 2 – 11 September 2017.

The other Members of the Institut de Droit International from Sri Lanka are Dr. C.F. Amerasinghe and Dr. M.C.W. Pinto. A former member, Judge Christopher G. Weeramantry, passed away in January this year.

Dear Rohan,

We are indeed proud of your achievements and the exclusive position you hold as Sri Lanka's permanent representative in the august body such as the United Nations and now to read of your election to the membership of a Nobel Prize winning body such as the Institut de Droit International is surely the icing on the cake. If I were to go a step further , to borrow a phrase from the late Lakhman Kadrigamar, the cake was baked at home. The ingredients came all the way from Girls High School and then to that unparalleled college of education, St Thomas' College, and the Universities in Colombo.

I am surely honoured to say that I even know you besides saying I was your classmate .

It is our privilege to have you in our Group of 55, as we recall the early days of our college life.

The least I can do is to congratulate you and to wish you well in all your future endeavours

Esto per Petua

Yours very sincerely

Sunil Peiris (S.D.Peiris)

Among many congratulatory messages I am receiving on my recent elections to the Institute of International Law,one from Sunil Peeris brother of late Eksith and also PMR who were with me from Girls High School days.

Trust all went off well with Perahera and was successfully concluded.

Love,
Rohan.
