I last spoke to his sister in Canberra a few years ago. She is a doctor. The news was not good.
All efforts to trace the legend had yielded no positive results.
If you can please give us some leads it will be wonderful.
I first met Aruna in 1960 at STC. He had an Uncle who seemed to play a major role in his
Young life at the time. His Uncle would regularly visit young Aruna in the Boarding.
He was a star student. A nerd in our group. When he got older and his personality blossomed
He was a delightful conversationalist. A keen player of Fives (a game we played at STC in a
Specially built cement court).
Thanks for making the effort to contact us.
Would you please mind directing your reply to email@example.com...

I am a friend of Aruna from his days in NZ and now in Melbourne.
I came across the following post in the STC website and was very curious to see that some of Aruna's friends are trying to find him.
I may be able to shed some light on where to look to find Aruna and his predicament.
Please email me back if you'll are still interested.

Aruna stayed at my place for a couple of days when he came to Sydney in the late 80's.
He was visiting his sister, a medical officer based at the Canberra hospital.
He was a marine biologist & had a paradigm shift in his career in the IT area. He was working in Auckland at the time. I didtinctively recall asking for his contact number. He said come to Auckland & check the phone directory!!
Since then Aruna has gone off my radar screen.

Hettiarachchi On Report and get to theback of the class.
When I asked for details you came backwith a rather limp “I have not seen him since 1972.”
Below is an example of the kind ofresponse I was looking for…
Sriyan – class monitor and well done!
Tissa Mohotti have you got a telephonenumber for this ‘fallen angel’ in NZ?

Thanks for sending that my way interesting reading.
A.S. Amarasuriya always wore specks was with us in Chapman B, thenleft and became a day boy. He was with us throughout our schooling. Thendisappeared I believe to live in New Zealand.
He hailed from Matara and must have been related to this legend.
Years ago I was walking around the historic parts of Christchurch and Ichanced upon a being that looked like an older version of this man. Heapproached me and it struck a chord in my mind. But sadly by the time my mindwas fully engaged this figure had walked past me and I was not able to stop himand ask a question. But we did exchange a smile as strangers are wont to do inforeign climes. What a wonderful story it would have been if that ‘face’actually happened to be ASA?!!!!
But all is not lost. If we do find him and he does live in Christchurch we have theopening paragraphs of a good story already!!!
Do you happen to know where we might be able to establish somecontact with the man?
Kind regards and best wishes,

I have gone through all the archives at the Auckland City Library searching for Aruna' name. The only record of him is in the 1987 Auckland Telephone Directory which gives his address as 6/73C, Carlton Gore Road, Grafton, Auckland with Phone no: 790 198. The phone number does not exist and the present occupants of this address have no idea of whose been there before.
I am of the opinion that Aruna has left New Zealand several years ago.

Dear Mr Perera,
Thanks for all the effort expended on this mission.
If we ever ‘locate’ the renegade Old Thomian we shall get him to shout us a few rounds of beer.
In Coll A he and Mohotti used to hit the Fives Courts big time.
If my memory serves me right I think he first got into specs in Chapman B.
For a while he was a U Thant look alike – minus the suit of course!
Maybe he will surface out of the woodwork one day.
