Default R C Mendis, RAVI

To. The STC Freshmen of 59,

It is with great sadness we note the passing away of R C Mendis after a brief illness. As you are aware he had to regularly undergo dialysis for sometime.

He passed away last night and the body will at his residence 34, Wickramaratne Ave, Kohuwala, tomorrow and the funeral will be on Sunday. For details kindly refer the daily papers.

He represented the school at Junior Cricket and 1st XV Rugger. Was a very good rugby player and was a member of the Combined School rugger team in 1970.

R C was a wonderful friend and our classmates memories of him are vivid and previous.

Safe in the arms of Jesus.

Kind regards

on behalf of The Freshmen of 59.

Hold Thaththie at this time of need, watch over him as he finds it difficult to get about, speak your love to him when he is afraid, touch and heal his weak body. Build him up again, look after his emotions and may he know your loving arms are around him at this time. Thank you for your love, and for your promises to your children. Thanks for the note, Sriyan.
This really is so saddening to read. I can hardly bear the thought that this guy is dead. The last I saw him was when he turned up at GOH for one of the get togethers. He was not very stable on his feet then.

Just to add something to the many accolades with which this great old Thomian will be honoured, I need to add the point that he was perhaps the only true ambidextrous cricketer I remember.
During our under 14 years, I recall him taking up the bowling end and confuse not only the umpire but also the hapless batsman at the other end by announcing almost after every ball he bowled that he would now be bowling "round the wicket left arm" or "round the wicket right arm" or "over the wicket left arm" or "over the wicket right arm" ~ and then proceed to do so with equal ability!
Rest well, dear old friend!

what a player, he was a superb man for cover defense Godi should recall all ways broke away fast to collect a loose kick from opposing stand off. and support the full back.
we called him Doty.
will be at the cemetery i intend wearing a college tie.

Dear Sriyan
It is sad moment for all our Thomian Brothers to farewell our dear brother Ravi C (RC) today. I will never forget the unassuming RC on the Rugby field -it was my greatest pleasure meeting him at the innaugural QI69 function in Colombo in 2014- I can now take the memories of that meeting. It was only last week communication of RC's health was heard amongst us and plans by the local brotherhood to visit him and my plan was to ring him -unfortunately we all missed the opportunity . I am positive RC will look upon us and say the Thomian spirit is still alive - our prayers and thoughts are with his wife Nilanthi and his children - May RC rest in peace with Gods Blessings till we meet again .
warm regards
Graham (Massa)

Dear Hetti, Sriyan and Rama,

I was sad to hear about the untimely demise of RC. He was as you
aptly describe an excellent Rugby Player. He had excellent ball skills
and a natural aptitude for the game.

You are all to be equally commended for the excellent work you all
do month after month to keep the flames and fires of our youth in what
is virtually a perpetual state of burn. It takes commitment and dedication
to do that and over many years you have all demonstrated this many
times over.

May RC now rest in peace his earthly journey done.

I played rugby with him. He was the hooker, and I was the prop forward. I remember him living on Hampton Ln in wellawatte? Iíve attached a picture of him at Nuware Eliya. We were vacationing at the same Hotel many many years ago. He is on the far right.

I wish to extend my thanks to our departed friends loved ones for having had the privilege of being friends and classmates of these honorable Thomians.

Warmest wishes
God Bless
Bo Shu
