David Sansoni too was one junior to us and lived down Cross Rd .We played cricket on Saturdays in his compound . Sani was a pacey , square arm action and a Stonite . His good neighbour was Charmaine Amerasekers - a good looker then ! Roberts was one year senior to us if recall . Arndt and I joined Form 1 in 1959.You joined in 1960. Gerla,Jimmy and Graham joined the Lower 4th in 1963.We were all former Manderin Group. What about David,Roberts And Haniffa.I know for sure David Sansoni is one class Junior to us.

Good morning!

All good...memory serves well.

Milinda: you, Arndt, Sriyan, Milroy, Gerlach, Buultjens...were all one year senior to:Haniffa, Roberts and me.

Haniff and I entered STC in 1960, at Form 1. Haniff was 1A - Mrs Karu; and I was 1B - Mrs Wickremanayake. (Just an aside - one of my mates was Wahab! Wonder what became of him...?)

Milroy also started in 1960; but that was because he refused to leave the girls at Bishop's when he SHOULD have!!

Roberts was a "Preppie" I think.

Then, at the (in)famous "leveller" - the O.L. - many of us joined forces...and we - Mil, Buultjo, Gerla - all completed our careers as "equals".

I say Milinda! You are right about my 'fiery pace'! But!! "SQUARE ARM"?! Machchang! Was I really?! AND, would yoou believe it?! - Charmaine Amarasekera, now a distinguished GRANDMOTHER, has not changed one jot! She STILL looks lovely and youthful! Pakka form!

Esto...and so on...

David

P.S. All your facts about Haniff are 'reliable'...save one! His home was 10th Lane, Kollupitiya. ...minor matter!!

Scribe extraordinaire

Adding to the scores of awards he has received in his more than quarter of-a-cen-tury career in Washington, DC,
Aziz Haniffa, editor and chief diplomatic and political correspon- dent of India Abroad, was present-ed with the Most Outstanding Journalist Award August 26 by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations, a coalition of the
community’s political and cultural organizations. India’s Ambassador
to the United States Nirupama Rao presented the award at a ban-quet held in Maryland to celebrate India’s Independence Day. The
award stated that Aziz, who has covered the Indian-American com-
munity as no one else has, was honored for his ‘untiring efforts to
improve Indo-US relationships and empowering political and
social awareness in the communi-ty.’ The organizers lauded him for
his many scoops over the years, and pointed out that in 2004, he
was the first and only South Asian journalist to have done back-to-
back exclusive interviews with then President George W Bush and
Democratic challenger Senator John F Kerry, on the eve of the
Presidential election. Aziz was also the only South Asian print journal-
ist who was part of the White House press delegation accompa-nying then President Bill Clinton to the subcontinent in March 2000 and also the first South Asian journalist to interview President Barack Obama during
his presidential campaign. Pavan Bezwada, chair, awards committee,
said, “For the past few decades, it has been the tradition in our com-
munity to honor community lead-ers and distinguished Indian
Americans who have been sup-portive of our community,” and that Aziz was recognized for his years of “achievements, participation, and support, to the causes dear to Indian Americans.” This award joins a shelf full of ac co-lades, including the Indian American Forum for Political Education’s Outstanding Journalist Award in 1991, the US-Asia Foundation’s Lifetime Service
Award in 2001, Project Impact’s Creating a Voice Award in 2002,
