Subject: Passing away of Daya Fonseka

Just a line to let you know that a fellow Thomian passed away after a protracted illness bravely fought. Daya Fonseka as far as I remember entered STC Mt. Lavinia, form 1A in 1956. I can certainly remember his interactions with Mr. JHS Peiris in U3A.

Funeral service will be at 6 pm Monday in Mississauga. I will pass along details as they become available.

Kind Regards

Arjun Senaratna

Details are as follows:

It will be Monday night, February 13th from 6-8pm at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery and Crematorium at 737 Dundas street east. The first hour will be visitation and the second hour will be a Buddhist service. We have been told black or white are good colors to wear and avoid red if possible.

Subject: RE: FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS- Daya Fonseka-

Dear Arjun and the rest,
I just read Nasan’s email and suddenly the ‘penny dropped’. I only knew the late Daya as ‘Fonnie’. I also knew that he had something to do with the Air Lanka GSA in Canada (?)
Daya was smaller than us in stature in was certainly traumatized by Mr J H S Peiris!
Remember the ‘merry-go-round’?
I was in that class and JHSP took 7 periods out of 8 on Thursdays. Fernando and Fonseka sat on the same bench in U3A in 1959. Often I wondered what happened to him. He was always harassed. It had an effect on me too to last a lifetime!
May he attain the supreme bliss of Nirvana.
Kind regards,
